First Year-In-Review

2023 - 2024

Reflecting on this past year, I feel like I have learned a lot. I challenged myself extensively to explore and step out of my comfort zone. It wasn't an easy year, but it was certainly interesting and filled with growth. I gained another professional experience in Florida, which was amazing.

On a personal level, the most significant lesson I learned was the importance of staying true to myself. I've realized that whenever I face difficulties, I tend to hide my emotions to avoid appearing weak. However, this year taught me that suppressing feelings can lead to losing touch with oneself. Our emotions—empathy, sadness, satisfaction—are what make us human. It's essential to acknowledge and understand our feelings instead of burying them, because they will resurface. Learning to be strong while going through challenges is crucial, and so is self-appreciation. We all make mistakes, but recognizing and improving from them is part of being human.

When I went to Florida for my internship, I initially felt that I would be alone. However, I discovered that there are always good people around, ready to support and connect. The professional experience itself was enriching. I gained hands-on experience, learned new techniques, and saw firsthand how different the practice of architecture can be in various contexts. This exposure not only enhanced my technical skills but also broadened my understanding of cultural and regional differences in architectural practice.

The challenges I faced this year also taught me resilience. Balancing academic responsibilities with professional commitments required a new level of discipline and time management. There were moments of doubt and stress, but pushing through those times made me more confident in my abilities.

Moreover, I learned the value of networking and building professional relationships. Interacting with colleagues and mentors in Florida provided me with invaluable insights and advice that I wouldn't have gained otherwise. These connections have become a vital part of my professional journey, offering support and guidance as I continue to develop my career.

On a personal note, I've grown more comfortable with vulnerability. Sharing my struggles and being open about my feelings has allowed me to form deeper connections with people around me. It’s liberating to express emotions rather than bottling them up, and it has helped me to understand myself better.

As I look back, I realize that appreciating myself is just as important as striving for improvement. Acknowledging my efforts, celebrating small victories, and being kind to myself have been crucial in maintaining a positive mindset. This year has been a testament to the fact that growth often comes from discomfort and that every challenge faced is an opportunity to learn and evolve.

Overall, this year has been a blend of professional advancement and personal growth. I’ve learned to embrace challenges, stay true to my emotions, and appreciate the journey, with all its ups and downs. As I move forward, I carry these lessons with me, ready to face new challenges and continue my journey of growth and self-discovery.
